Chair Art

On Thursday the 25th we were with Miss Ealam to do chair art. My group did nature on an old wooden chair. We did it because the chair needs a new family. We used magazines to find the same theme. Once we had finished finding the pieces we wanted then we glued them on the chair. After gluing we let it dry and then modpodged the chair so that the photos can`t come off the chairs. I like it because it is great.

Collage

In class for topic we have been learning about plastic and how it is polluting the world. We have been making a collage to show what we have been learning. We included sky, land, sea and sand on our collages. We had two pieces of paper and stuck them together. Then we drew lines to mark where the land, sea, sky and the sand were. Then we got some magazines and ripped out paper strips of the magazines and stuck them on the background paper to match the environment . We used pva glue and stuck the strips of paper on the collage. Next we put them on the collage for the background. When we were done we drew some sea animals then we cut them out and stuck them on the collage. We found some plastic that we brought from home  and stuck it on the collage.
The bit that I thought was hard is the sand I think that it could be better next time with more yellow paper.

The bad thing about it was keeping up on the coloured paper by ripping it out and sticking it on the collage.

The hard thing was cutting out the fish, turtle, eel and the crab and sticking it on the collage. Next time we should add more animals like birds and we could also make the mountains higher.

Bin Liners

In class we have been writing a letter to Mrs Wallace, for her to stop using the plastic bin liners that are in the class room bins. We are encouraging her to stop the use of plastic, and so then we stop polluting the sea . We have been learning to write to persuade, here is my letter for Mrs Wallace.

Dear Mrs Wallace,

At Awahono School we use lots of bin liners in our classrooms that are in our rubbish bins. I believe that we can use the bin liners that are in the rubbish bin again. There are two good reasons why.

Firstly, we use 2000 plastic bags in four terms, 500 plastic bag in one term, 50 plastic bags in a week and 10 a day. 2000 is a lot  of plastic and it costs a lot of money. I think that the cleaners should grab the plastic bin liners and put the rubbish from in the bins into the big black bags but not the plastic bin liners then they put the plastic bin liners back in the rubbish bin.  Then we have only one bin liner in each class, the library and in the office per year.

Secondly, the white  plastic bags in the bin are going to the sea but if we stop doing this you can save the sea animals. We can stop killing the sea life and stop killing turtles.Turtles think that the plastic shopping bags are jellyfish. They feel full but they are not full at all then they die.

In conclusion, I believe that we can stop using some plastic bags in the rubbish bins in Awahono School.  Please stop using the plastic bin liners that are polluting the sea animals.
Yours sincerely,

Bella

The Big Plastic Mountain

In room five we have been learning to describe a moment in time and writing  feelings, smells, sounds, sights, sensations. Here is my descriptoion about a country that has lots of plastic.

 The Big Plastic Mountain
I am feeling sad because I am working every day and it hurts badly when I am stepping on the plastic bottle. Piles of colourful plastic bottles are spread every around me and my cousin. When I step on the plastic bottles they make a crackling noise and flies are buzzing everywhere around me and my cousin. I feel all the plastic on my feet and it hurts because the caps are sharp and not on the plastic bottle. My Granny has a knife to cut the labels of the plastic bottle, Mum is helping my Granny too. My cousin is taking the labels of the crack plastic bottle. I am giving bottle to Granny and Mum and cousin. It is getting dark and I have to go home.
Here is a picture.

El Gregoe

On the 4 of September El Gregoe came to Awahono School. El Gregoe was teaching us to stop bullying other people. My favourite  part was when Popcorn the parrot  was on  El Gregoe's  pants. WITS means  walk away, ignore them, talk to someone, stop it. El Gregoe grabbed his suit case and he pulled out a ladder, respect is the top one, then helpful, trustworthy, responsible, caring. After that, Jake was flouting in the room.
